Finding the listener service

  1. Applet coding instructions (sample format shown below). Include reference to hardcopy where applicable.
  2. We will start our simulation at the Control Panel window. Your first step is to double-click the Services icon in order to open the Services control panel.
  3. When the Services control panel opens, you will see a list of NT services. Click the scrollbar to scroll down to the Oracle Net8 Listener service.
  4. At the bottom of the Service window, you will see a service named OracleOraHome81TNSListener. This is the Net8 Listener service. A value of "Started" in the status column means that the listener service is running. Click the listener name to highlight the entry.
  5. Click the Stop button in order to stop the service.
  6. You will be asked to confirm that you want to stop the listener. Click Yes to continue.
  7. You will see this spinning clock while Windows works on shutting down the listener. Click anywhere to continue.
  8. The listener is now stopped. Notice that the status field is blank. Click the Start button to restart the service.
  9. You will again see a spinning clock, this time while Windows starts the service. Click anywhere to continue.
  10. After the listener is started, you will again see "Started" in the status column. This is the end of the simulation.
