SQL Configuration Monitoring Prerequisites

Verify that you have the right background for this course.This course is designed to enable you to perform the critical job responsibilities of a SQL Server Administrator. It is also designed to help you pass the Microsoft Certification test 70-028, Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012. In order to successfully take this course, you should have a basic understanding of SQL.
You should have already taken the first two courses in this series, along with Supporting Microsoft Windows 2016 Core Technologies, Parts 1-3;
or have an understanding of Windows 2016 networking, administration, and security, and be able to use the basic Windows 2016 administration tools. In the next lesson, the requirements for this course will be discussed.

You can use the Monitoring Configuration Wizard to enable, modify, or repair the monitoring and reporting features in Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003.
After installing the server, run the wizard to establish the initial monitoring configuration by clicking Configure Monitoring in the To Do List, or by clicking Set Up Monitoring Reports and Alerts in the Monitoring and Reporting snap-in in Server Management.
If you need to make changes to the configuration at a later time, run the wizard again.
Based upon your selections, the Monitoring Configuration Wizard will perform one or more of the following actions:
Configure report settings that enable you to view server performance and usage reports.
  1. Create a default set of critical alert notifications.
  2. Changes the service state of Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) from disabled to automatic.
  3. Enable Task Scheduler and add tasks to collect report data and send reports.
  4. Install the Web Usage Logging Service.
  5. Enable logging for Internet Information Services (IIS), which is used to collect information about Outlook Web Access usage, Routing and Remote Access, Exchange, and Fax.
  6. Send confirmation of your monitoring configuration settings to e-mail recipients.
